alternative christmas tree by octav avramescu is today’s idea.
the alternative christmas tree project hopes to convince everybody that cutting a healthy tree only to throw it after two weeks is neither kind or cool. please make your own trees! have fun recycling, upcycling, improvising. there are no limits to what you can do. if you have kids, even better! they will cherish the memory of making a “tree” with their family, each year different and better. we will show you how easy it is to make a “tree” and i can’t wait to see what you come up with. enjoy your holidays!
octav avramescu studied 17th century literarature at ecole des hautes etudes en sciences sociales in paris and english literature at university of british columbia in vancouver. nowadays, he’s based in bucharest. together with anamaria pravicencu, he runs the only comics book shop in town. also, a series of concerts and happenings of experimental music. octav is warm and kind and he loves serigraphy and indie publishing.
he made a meta tree:
“in order to make a tree, i was planning to take apart my own telephone. it’s certainly full of rare metals and memories, and it stopped working anyway. but i came up with a collage, because to demonstrate is the mother of taking apart. the collage shows that it’s not about size, that some childhood nostalgia is involved, suggests winter&holidays preparations or methods. if i can imagine that i ski among fir trees made out of GSM parts, it’s christmas enough for me! :)”
thank you, octav!
