cuines at mercat santa caterina was so good that i had lunch there twice. i recommend it if you are looking to have a great casual meal in barcelona.
the market and the restaurant were on my to short do list. i had decided that this trip would be more relaxed. so i just wrote down a few things i wanted to see and allowed for a lot of walking around aimlessly in the meantime.
the restaurant is part of grupo tragaluz. i made a mental note to try their other restaurants and bars. especially bar lobo in raval: i passed it by most days but it was usually in the morning. next time…
the restaurant has a tapas bar, a terrace and a sitting area. the latter is surrounded by a suspended railway. and it works! the train passes through quietly, its route signaled by little lights.
the menu is contemporary and cosmopolitan: catalan as well as spanish, but also japanese, etc. we enjoyed choosing and trying the dishes. we had some white wine and vichy catalan. the latter is a well-known catalan mineral water that’s slightly salty. enjoyable!
the market was renovated quite recently. click here for an aerial view of that wavy roof! below you have a few pictures from inside the market. the selection is as wonderful and plentiful as you’d expect.
don’t hesitate to stop by when you are in town. it’s only minutes away from the cathedral de barcelona!
