day 2 – neuchatel was my base city in switzerland. still, i only spent one day discovering it.
this was the view from the balcony: lake neuchatel and, on clear days, the alps beyond it. it was the perfect place to wind down after walking around all day!
we walked from serrieres to the city center. i enjoy doing that in every new place i visit. i believe walking gives you the best impression, geographically-speaking. it was a hot day, but i still wouldn’t give up my walking tour.
we arrived downtown and walked around for a while. we had lunch and were very lucky to find the local tourist center. they gave us a lot of useful brochures and one great idea.
we took a bus to the funicular that climbed all the way to chaumont. the ride costs 4 chf but it can be included in a regular 60-minute ticket.
up on the platform, there were two girls. they were helping people out with information, took free polaroids and offered pre-stamped post cards with the view. it felt very welcoming!
this is the 3-lake panorama. the big lake is lake neuchatel, the one beyond it is lake morat and there’s also lake bienne, outside of the picture to the left.
we decided to walk back to the city.
we had a hard time finding the botanical garden. but it was worth the effort since we had it all to ourselves.
we only saw one other person in the garden. can you spot this person in the photo below?
we walked some more, due to some disabled bus routes and took another funicular from the train station to the city center. we were in a bit of a rush since we were cooking dinner that night.
stay tuned for the following swiss posts!
