day 3 – lausanne was not at all what i expected. it was way better!
the only thing on my list that i really wanted to see was the rolex learning center by japanese architect duo sanaa. it’s located in the epfl (ecole polytechnique federale de lausanne) campus.
the building is an open space welcoming anybody who wishes to spend time reading, studying or hanging out with friends. there’s also a restaurant, a cafe and free wi-fi. the outer walls are all made of glass. it reminded me of the 21st century museum of contemporary art in kanazawa, the round building with entrances from all four cardinal points.
since it was another day of the heat wave, we spent a few hours in the learning center. then, the rest of the day was divided between some walking around and having early dinner.
this is the impressive charles-bessieres bridge which we climbed by elevator.
this is the lausanne cathedral.
on a clear day, one can see the french alps across the lake geneva. also, right across the lake from lausanne is evian les bains, the source of the famous mineral water.
we sat down at cafe des artisans. the service was swift, the food was delicious and the company of old and new friends was perfect. the ingredients of a great evening!
stay tuned for the rest of my swiss posts!
