the 61st edition of the berlin film festival begins today and ends on february the 20th.
some highlights:
– the opening screening tonight will be true grit by the coen brothers, a film that has 10 nominations for the upcoming oscars.
– the future by the poly-oriented miranda july (competition)
– pina – a film on dancer and choreographer pina bausch by wim wenders (competition)
– ralph fiennes directorial debut, coriolanus (competition)
– romania has two films in the shorts competition: 15 iulie (15th of july) by cristi iftimie and apele tac (silent river) by anca miruna lazarescu.
– madonna is rumored to make an appearance as her new film, W.E., is supposed to be sold for distribution at the parallel european film market.
