february 2025 finds is here!

BOOKS
1. i found vernon subutex 1 by virginie despentes at my library. so, i re-read it in portuguese.
next, i’ll read the second and third in digital form. score!
2. i read nadine redzepi’s cooking book called savourer, in french. the text felt a bit condescending, although i’m sure it was not intentional.
3. i tried to read miranda july’s the first bad man. after 50 pages, i couldn’t say what i’ve read. i gave up.
i fell into a vinted hole and bought a bunch of street photography books,
4. two by yvan rodic aka facehunter. i love yvan! he’s still travelling the world, but he’s now interested in people and their cultures.
5. and two by scott schuman aka the sartorialist. i have always found scott to lack emotional intelligence. the comments he made about the public focusing on other details than he did didn’t help my impression. shaming people for being supposedly less refined than he was, as if it’s a given that his point of view was the right one. fortunately, some of his pics are great.
6. i zipped through express by mihnea mihalache fiastru. pro: very fluent style of writing. con: the book lacks structure.
7. i forced myself to finish pe bune/pe invers, the re-published debut of adrian schiop. the narrative line is weak and there is not much in there to make you care enough to continue reading.
MAGAZINES
8. since the list comes so late, i read 2 issues of british vogue. unfortunately, the content is still rather meh.
MUSIC
9. one of this month’s endless loops was nuevas coordenadas by wos. another argentino on my list. i prefer the live version, it’s the first song in the concert below.
10. valeria stoica is back with hazy.
11. catriel & paco amoroso have a new album called papota. they made a short film to present it. the first half of the album is made of new songs and second half of the tiny desk ones. i love it!
12. the time has come to look into japanese heavy weights dir en grey. i saved this recent live version of a 26 year old song called akuro no oka.
13. nyron higor is a singer from northern brazil worth checking.
14. i found sofia isella on insta. she’s super young, but gets inspiration from nine inch nails. also, her music serves a plate of hot steaming female rage. she opened for taylor swift and is touring currently. she’ll be in europe this summer!
15. miley is not among my favourites, so i missed nothing breaks like a heart when it came out. i heard damiano’s cover, but the original is so much better.
my favourite version is this live one at glastonbury, where ice wouldn’t melt in mark’s mouth.
16. this is peak ville valo back in 1999. i might’ve shared this before, it is after all the best rebel yell cover.
FILMS
17. queer has almost the same team as challangers. director luca guadagnino, writer justin kuritzkes, wardrobe by jonathan anderson, red carpet stuff by loewe. also, the trent reznor and atticus ross soundtrack is the third one in a row. with the music, i had the same feeling as before: some of the songs seem to be coming from another open tab.
anyway, if you have 136 minutes for a vibey experience of the burroughs novel and want to see daniel craig as a deliciously semi-functional junkie, go see it!
18. i re-watched the secretary by steven shainberg after a long time. by whispering, it manages to convey a lot more about the topic that the many films shouting about it. both maggie g. and james spader do a great job.
19. the women is an airplane movie at best. it’s about the women in your life, if your friends were all hollywood women with hollywood houses and careers.
20. i love cats and animals in general, so i loved flow. an instant classic!
TV SERIES
21. adolescence is a 4-episode netflix series. with brad pitt as one of the executive producers and stephen graham and jack thorne as creators and writers, the story is about male rage in kids and grown ups.
each episode was shot in one take and had great pacing. and the kid was amazing. remember his name: owen cooper.
22. i’ve just finished the queen’s gambit. great!
EXHIBITIONS
if i were in london, these are the first places i’d go.
23. korean artist do huh sun has a retrospective at tate modern.
24. i think leigh bowery was kind of a genius. he gets his own retrospective at tate modern. read here a few opinions of like-minded artists.
PODCASTS
25. i have been listening to semi-silent. my friend ana has been collecting sounds there.
26. on the louis theroux podcast, i listened to the nick cave, trevor noah, samantha morton, paul mescal, sharon stone and william dafoe episodes. recommended.
27. on fashion neurosis, i liked the juergen teller, karl ove knausgaard and julianne moore episodes.
28. on tetragrammaton, i liked the woody harrelson episode.
29. on the magnificent other with billy corgan, i liked the tom morello, sharon osbourne and gene simmons episodes. i hope he convinces courtney love, his ex, to do the pdcast.
30. the good bad billionaire started its new season with martha stewart.
EXHIBITIONS
31. i went to braga and went to see kim gordon’s exhibition at gnration.
YOUTUBE
32. i love this london house the artist shares with her family. dreamy!
33. one of the many heartbreaking stories on soft white underbelly. recommended!
34. japanese food is amazing and there is no way you will ever taste all of it. but you can try!
how was you february? i was in venice recently, you can check it on insta.
