florence in 100 pictures part 1 is my rather casual reunion with this beautiful place.
our airbnb had a central location so we started each day by passing by the duomo.
la piazza della signoria was this time around dominated by 2 jan fabre‘s pieces. there were two places where his work was exhibited and i went to see both. it was a wonderful experience and i plan to write about it separately.
a part of his pieces are exhibited in the palazzo vecchio.
i took a few pictures from the open windows of the palace. they show the eastern part of florence, probably my favourite.
i love this shot i sneaked of a mother and daughter duo. the fiorentine golden hour helped greatly.
we went east, to find the neighborhood. it’s a cool area surrounding the mercato sant’ ambrogio. it’s where the cool concept store societe anonime is located but the atmosphere is also decidedly low key and effervescent, especially in the evenings. so it’s the perfect place for the apperitivo.
this is the fabulous basilica di santa croce.
some random street art. but the street art king in florence is undoubtedly clet. after i left the city, i was nearly surprised to see bare traffic signs lol.
another clet piece, this time a reference to joe strummer as he appears on the famous cover of the clash 1979 album, london calling.
this is a street vendor where you can get tripe sandwiches.
and this is how you find an enoteca and you enjoy apperitivo with locals, looking at the chiesa di sant’ambrigio.
we had breakfast with the spparows the next morning. they were unafraid and they loved cornetto.
this is la piazza di santa maria novella.
and this is the stunning basilica di santa maria novella.
this is the river arno, famous for running through florence.
stay tuned: part 2 is coming up shortly!
