i went to graz for a single day just to see the kunsthaus and the mur insel. it was even better than i expected!

i walked through the old fashioned city waiting to see the UFO that is the kunsthaus. the building is breath taking (designed by london architects peter cook and colin fournier) and the exhibitions are well-curated. here you have a short video of the museum’s amazing skin, called bix media facade.  i know people don’t usually like this mix of a sci-fi structure in a traditional town, but i think the contrast totally works.

in 2003, when graz was the europen cultural city, they built a temporary island, designed by new york artist vito acconci, in the middle of the river mur. it was such a success that they kept the multi-purpose mur insel. don’t miss the cafe there: they have nice cake! and great views of the running water,

graz is a beautiful place. check it out if you have the opportunity. and buy a bottle or two of their pumpkin seed oil.
