last day in barcelona was spent mostly in my head while walking around.
i started the day by having breakfast on the roof of caixa forum.
and then i went up the montjuic.
i went to visited the jardi botanic historic. just so you know, expect less exquisite flowers and more forest-like scenery. also, it’s where i saw my first centipede!
then, i went around the olympic stadium.
to find the bigger and more varied jardi botanic de barcelona.
this is a little bonsai garden. i seem to like these little trees. right below, you can see an apple tree with developing fruit and a fig tree.
i had a very nice lunch at fundacion juan miro.
and then walked down the winding road towards an area i hadn’t visited before: poble sec.
this is the teatre lliure, across the street from the museu d’arqueologia de catalunya.
this is el mercat de flors which is actually a theatre in spite of its name.
i passed by this very idyllic-looking studio and exchanged smiles with the man playing the guitar. if i didn’t see it myself, i wouldn’t believe it, it looks so perfectly messy and styled.
i’m a self-confessed language nerd, so all the catalan i come across was fun to decipher.
i crossed the large avenida parallel and went into my favourite part of the city: el raval.
and, you guessed it, back to macba to watch the skaters. this was the perfect ending to my short trip: chatting to a new friend in spanish/portuguese about how people connect. his dog relaxed, the boards kept on smacking against the smooth pavement and the breeze kept on blowing. what more can one ask for?
the primavera sound showcase continued on two stages.
on my way to the train station, i saw a few locals playing some sort of petanque in parc de joan miro.
this is dona i ocell by joan miro.
and lastly, this is a building in front of the train station i was leaving from, barcelona sants.
it was a good city break. i saw many things i hadn’t seen before and i enjoyed the atmosphere.
as always, barcelona stays on my short list. i know i will go back sooner rather than later.
