i reached the end of the trip so i said goodbye to wonderful shunsuke and went to the airport.
unfortunately, the flight back was terrible. alitalia could do much better…the flight attendants were careless, the selection on the entertainment center was poor, the center itself would not turn off so i could hear it buzzing continuously, the seats were incredibly rigid and uncomfortable, the food was unappetizing…in a nutshell, i couldn’t sleep at all during the 12-h trip to rome. i dozed off in the airport waiting for my connection. fortunately, the week that followed was very calm and stress free so i could recover.
to summarize: i absolutely recommend japan, it’s an amazing country. do not get scared off by the fact that a few cities in japan are on the list of the most expensive cities in the world: if you are on a budget, you will find that it is possible to do it all, without frustration. if you intend to see the country, get a japan rail pass: the services are faultless and you get your money’s worth even if you make just one or two medium-length trips. and bring an empty troller for the thrift finds!
