slut walk is an imported street protest against age-old stereotypes that say a woman can be responsible for her being raped…

the official figures in romania say there’s a rape each 4 hours. wow! but you know that’s not the actual number: think of all the young girls in the country side, or about those abused by relatives. or about the women raped by their husbands. you know there are many more rapes that are never reported, one of the main reasons being the stigma attached to being a rape victim.

why am i going? because it’s tiresome to live in a sad country where 90% of the popular jokes are about laughing at women. where most of the population, men and women, believe that women are naturally inferior to men. where the most popular blogger often posts misogynistic remarks (he even posted a photo shopped picture showing a woman on a spit roast…).

gender inequality is, in my experience, the mark of an uncivilized country. any culture that’s belittling more than half of its population is not gaining much from it: women are your mothers, wives and friends.

and my country could certainly use a little education and progress. romania’s serious emotional problems bred a hateful, foaming at the mouth society in search of their next witch to burn: be it stray dogs or gays or women, romanians always have a few choice words to scream out. it is a sign of an unhappy, loveless society. yes, romanians are fast to hate and have a very limited idea about love. how can they be otherwise, when, traditionally, admitting to having feelings is perceived as a weakness?

what is a slut after all? a woman who likes sex? i thought that’s all men dreamed of. i thought a woman with a libido is a sign of health and happiness. are the people using it as a hate term still in the middle ages?

anyhow, i’ll be walking for a rape free world on thursday (meeting point at unirii with mircea vodă, across the street from the bucharest tribunal at 7 pm). i’ll see you there, sluts!
