i missed it last year and i’ll miss it again this year: the snow festival in sapporo.

for a week in february, the 5th biggest largest city in japan becomes a fairytale place populated with snow and ice sculptures.  last winter, the 1.4 million population increased with 2.5 million visitors lured by the amazing white show.

the very thorough website includes info about the international snow statue contest, the number of sculptures (248 this year), the number of visitors for the past couple of years, a map, drawings of the sculptures that will be on show, a schedule of all events, etc. also, a step-by-step tutorial on how to make a (mega) snow sculpture.

first organized in 1960, the festival reached its 62nd edition!
