during the extensive research i did for the upcoming japan trip i came over this.

the museum is an amazing concrete pod covering a 40/60 m area with absolutely no supporting pillars. it is supposed to look like a drop of water caught in a little valley overlooking the inland sea and the structure is supposed to freely interact with the surrounding nature. it is the combined vision of artist rei naito and architect ryue nishizawa (he’s half of SAANA).

last year, i visited the neighboring naoshima island so this year’s itinerary will include both islands. i actually have an island day and it includes naoshima, teshima and miyajima.
