vogue uk april 2014 was bought and read about two weeks ago, on a train to targu jiu. but i’ve been so busy ever since that i couldn’t find the time to share the highlights.
first of all i will hail the use of an older, non-model woman on the cover. nigella lawson has been recently in the attention of the media due to her divorce from charles saatchi. the pictures of him chocking her over a table were gas to the fire. alexandra shulman, vogue’s editor in chief, is a long time friend and i believe her decision to feature a real woman on the cover is welcome. because real women of 54 rarely make the cover even if they are as beautiful and accomplished as mrs. lawson.
dior paid for a 4 page ad featuring jennifer lawrence. i don’t see the fit between the hollywood starlet and raf simons. although i have to admit, i kinda lost him when he started off at dior. i feel like i don’t know him anymore. same goes for hedi slimane at saint laurent.
dolce & gabbana have an ad for their red 620 featuring monica belluci. she has been collaborating with the italian brand for many years and looks wonderful post her divorce from fellow actor vincent cassell.
versace choose to feature lady gaga in their campaign now that her relevance plummeted. i wonder if they’re sorry…
the jimmy choo ads feature a good (but unrecognizable) looking nicole kidman.
there is an interesting stacy martin profile. she played young joe in lars von trier’s nymphomaniac.
introductions of upcoming shows: matisse at tate modern (17.04 – 7.09) and jean-paul gaultier at the barbican center (9.04 – 25.08). they have stripped eclaires on sale already! and one has my name on it!
the new face of uniqlo is ines de la fressange. she has also co-designed a collection of key pieces. nice move!
i like two of the editorials: the one starring flawless 45 year old christy turlington and the one paying homage to linda mccartney, using part of her wardrobe.
also, since i was unable to wait until i got to london, i bought the magazine in romania. that meant that i missed the attached issue of teen vogue i would have gotten in the uk. as a result, i have no idea about its contents.
for any more details, find the issue on sale at newsstands across the world. enjoy!
